VEO’s new strategy to speed up the journey towards a brighter tomorrow
In 2021, VEO underwent a tremendous strategy process, engaging a broad front of employees as well as key clients to the strategy work. The underlying question was how to realise VEO’s new vision and become one of the leading sustainable energy solutions integrators contributing to a climate neutral future. As a result of the successful work, VEO now has a clear path forward.
VEO’s need to renew its strategy arose from the global energy transition policy. The new strategy aims to accelerate the company’s profitable growth in all business segments by shifting VEO’s focus more and more to renewable energy related solutions and sustainable innovations contributing to the green transition.
“The whole strategy work started from restating the company’s vision: To deliver leading energy solutions for a sustainable future. After that, the mission and values were also adjusted accordingly to create a solid starting point for the strategy work”, says Jarkko Aro, Head of VEO’s Marketing and Business Development.
VEO’s adjusted mission is still to create wellbeing – to its clients, employees and stakeholders – but instead of limiting its services to electrification and automation solutions, VEO is now committed to serving the whole energy sector with a wider offering, in a sustainable and ethical way, according to the highest safety standards. This commitment obliges VEO to take on even more responsibility as an employer. The strategy adds focus to social responsibility and the personnel’s opportunities for competence development and career planning.
Inclusive strategy work
For the extensive, organisation-wide strategy work, which started early 2021, VEO appointed seven internal workgroups for different areas of development, conducted a personnel survey and undertook a widescale customer interview process to identify the future requirements of various business segments and development areas. Jarkko Aro, responsible for coordinating, facilitating and summarising the results of the strategy work, is thankful for the contributions from all the parties involved.
“We wanted to build a comprehensive strategy that will take us to our goal. That is why it was important to listen to our employees as well as our clients before setting a new direction. As a result, we now have a common theme in our strategy and broad support for its implementation”, says Aro appreciatively.
Unified processes and multi-skilled personnel
The first action of the new direction strategy was taken already in 2021 by focusing on unified processes: a new functional automation unit was established to serve VEO group’s all business segments.
“These changes will lead to more multi-skilled personnel, stabilized volumes and even workloads, which in turn will give VEO the opportunity to grow within all business segments at the main market areas and innovate further new solutions related to sustainable energy. This will also turn our skilled experts into multi-skilled assets for the entire company”, says Aro.
As part of the profitable growth strategy, VEO will increase its business focus to Sweden and Norway to gain a wide foothold in the Nordic market within all VEO business segments.
New business driven by megatrends
The strategy introduces also a new aspect for VEO’s new business development, driven by megatrends.
“We operate already in the forefront of the energy transition and integrate green energy solutions alongside our clients, e.g., in the field of hybridization. But there are many new sustainable business areas, such as various energy storage solutions, the hydrogen economy and carbon-capture, where innovation and proactivity is needed”, says Aro.
VEO will also contribute strongly towards carbon neutrality targets by supporting the research of future energy solutions in Finnish universities as well as through its own innovative solutions.
Preparations for growth in 2022
The main action points for the strategy implementation will take place in 2022. VEO will continue to recruit and prepare its organisation – as well as the employees – for the expected growth and bright future
